Essay Contest Essay Contest : Eliminating prejudice in my life
In the aftermath of the genocide in Bosnia, in a society devastated by the loss of over 200,000 victims of genocide, bigotry, prejudice and intolerance, and a displacement of over 2,000,000 people, young people want to prevent this from ever occurring again. Prejudice is the first step on the road leading to genocide. Other steps include stereotyping, discrimination, harassment and violence. Bosnia and Herzegovina represented a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious society until aggression and genocide strove to destroy those values inherent to the country. It is our wish that by expressing themselves and writing about forms of prejudice that they have encountered in their lives, young people can actively participate in making a difference. What steps will you take – what will you do – how will you act to eliminate prejudice and genocide in your lifetime?
