Bosnian American Library of Chicago
The Bosnian Library of Chicago was founded by Selena Seferovic in early 2000, in collaboration with Chicago’s Sulzer Regional Public Library. The Bosnian Library came about in response to a need for mother-language materials for people from that region who have made Chicago their American home.
A growing collection of books in Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian languages for adults and children can be found in the library: adults’ books on the second floor, in the foreign literature section, and children’s books in the children’s section on the first floor.
The Bosnian Library has utilized Sulzer Regional’s auditorium for book presentations and discussions. With the support and collaboration of various individuals and organizations, these events have been more than literary evenings; they are a celebration of all artistic expression bringing together people from the former-Yugoslavian region as well as others curious about the region’s languages, culture, and customs, or those interested in preservation of culture by members of its diaspora.
